Hammock - Chasing After Shadows... Living With The Ghosts [2010]
lovely romantic ambient post-swell slide guitar and drones

Hammock is always golden. They're still keeping that beautiful heart-swelling signature sound of theirs but progressing enough to keep it interesting. Such nostalgia it brings.

It took me a horrific amount of time to get into DMST. But damn it, this album is immense. The three I've bolded down below are probably my three favourite track by them. Their two newest albums, You, You're a History in Rust and The Other Truths are also well worth checking out.

Ock•oh•eye. Heavy post-rawk from Johnson City, TN in the vein of Russian Circles and Pelican and that lot. Underrated release from last year. The track "Babble" just gets heavier and heavier. Love it.

The Appleseed Cast - Peregrine [2006]
indie rock, post-rock, emo
v0

The album that introduced me to who are now one of my favourite bands. Peregrine is a great combination of post-rocky instrumental tracks and the more traditional atmospheric emo of The Appleseed Cast's past.

+10 points for their lead singer's beard.

Constants - The Murder of Tom Fitzgerril [2006]
long-form rock songs with some modern prefixes, post-what
256vbr

My first experience of Constants was on their split with Caspian - a 7" so forgettable that I just had to google it to double check it actually exists. But on hearing that the wonderful Mylene Sheath were due to release their latest record, I decided to give them another whirl. This, their debut release is 4 songs over 40 minutes and is well worth checking out if you're into the new Appleseed Cast record, Moving Mountains or recent post-rock outfits like Giants and If These Trees Could Talk. A great rhythm section drives the whole record forward and great packaging (Vega Vinyl did a lovely job with this) makes it well worth owning. Recommended.

Texas sure knows how to churn out awesome post-rock bands. These guys, as a two-man outfit, definitely straddle the more electronic side of the spectrum, and if you do nothing else with this album, at least check out "Birds". It's good.

3epkano - At Land [2007]

Don't let their strange name fool you, this band is exceptional and totally underrated. I was listening to Grails' Black Tar Prophecies beforehand, and as soon as At Land came on I was thinking, "I wish this album was Black Tar Prophecies, it lives up to the name so much better." Ominous and powerful post-rock with strings.

As far as I'm concerned, it takes a lot to be a stand-out post rock album now. I can't pin down what is so great about this album, but it is one of my  favourites from last year. Compeltely beautiful. Whispered Ears is a regular evening chillout track for me.

And So I Watch You From Afar - And So I Watch You From Afar [2009]
post-rock, instrumental
160 :(

I think this is a pretty hyped album. If so, it deserves all the hype it's getting. If not, it should be getting more hype. Just really solid instrumental in-your-face mathier post-rock. Lively and skillful playing has kept this album going on my computer and mp3 player for the last couple days. It's also super cheap, you can pre-order it at the link above.

Adelaide is like... if The Album Leaf had no vocals and more... Crescendos... I guess... I like them a lot. Apparently they're super underground and awesome and don't exist anymore and now exist as a band called Small Sails which are probably cool too, I don't know though.

Monolith - Eclipse [2008]
post-rock, post-metal, sludge
v0

Possibly the first 'artist submitted album' to this blog. Really nice traditional sounding ambient sludgey stuff, pretty mellow in most parts, but powerful when needed. Their myspace says they're playing a show with Rosetta. ROSETTA! That's how cool they are. Also, they do their marketing by leaking their own album. Buy it?

02 Ascend (13:11)
03 Surface ( 4:39)

Pan•American - Quiet City [2004]

Pan•American is Mark Nelson, who is a member of the post-rock band Labradford. Quiet City contains subtle electronics and guitar work and is, in my opinion, the best material Nelson's put out to date, inside or outside of Labradford.

Earth - The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull [2008]
drone, post-rock, instrumental

Earth have been known to be a 'doom' band of sorts, but I really don't hear it in this. Yeah, okay, so it isn't exactly uptempo, but it is undoubtedly melodic and even rather calm.
I did not think Earth were going to be a band I would enjoy - I was very wrong.
