Sun Araw - On Patrol [2010]
lo-fi, psych drone
v0

Last.fm calls this "Creepster" music (Creepy+Hipster). That's a pretty rad description for it, actually. Lo-fi tribal drones. I would guess that if you did some sort of mind-altering substance while listening to this it would be quite the experience.

Indian Summer - Hidden Arithmetic [2008]
quaking amplitudes, college radio, wrenching guts, c-c-c-c-combobreaker
224vbr

This is emotional hardcore. I sing the praises of this record at any given opportunity. Indian Summer were a short-lived Californian rock band who recorded a handful of songs and played a handful of shows and then burnt out. This record (and this is the LP, not the CD which is different) features a radio set and a live performance. It's loose and lo-fi and just exploding with passion. A must have for fans of Saetia, The Saddest Landscape or Slint. The vinyl is worth picking up; all screen-printed inserts and hilarious liner notes.

All tracks are untitled. Running time is 55 minutes.

Park Ave. - When Jamie Went to London... We Broke Up [1999]
twee, middle-school, Xs and Os

Baby-faced Nebraskans. Jamie Williams (now Pressnall) and Neely Jenkins of Tilly and the Wall, Clark Baechle of The Faint and Conor... something of that band Bright Times, when they were all young and adorable. Boy/girl harmonies and catchy guitar lines. I love this record.

Arrowwood - Hemlock And Spindle Flower [2006]
lo-fi, folk, forest-tunes, ancient-rites

Not so much druid-rock as Natural Snow Buildings, although it gives a similar vibe - but with less snow. Deep forest primal dancing.

Also, pssssst! It's a girl.

Nurses - Apple's Acre [2008]
indie rock, lo-fi, psych-pop
v0

For me, Nurses conjure up the idea that they're what Woods would sound like if they got a bit poppier and electric-instrument-happy. Thus, I am a fan, and I enjoy this album.

Woods - How To Survive In / In The Woods [2007]
folk, lo-fi
v2

This band has made my week completely not suck. Good going, dudes.

(I just made this exact same post, left the house for a while, and then finished publishing it, only to come and find Nat posted the very same thing while I was gone, with the same tags and everything. I chuckled.)

Woods is just/just great. It is the words lo-fi embodied in music. Has a very Grouper or Pocahaunted feel to it, while also being very Iron and Wine uppity folk goodness. It's quite a trip and pleasant. People who call it "psychedelic" can shove it.
